My passion for sewing, garment construction techniques, historic fashions and textiles, as well as a sober awareness of the environmental and human impacts of fast fashion, drive me to create high-quality clothing that will be cherished for years.

I have been creating handmade and original garments for nearly 30 years. What started as a hobby quickly became a passion, and I embraced that. Since then, I have immersed myself in learning everything related to the art of sewing, and also to growing as a professional clothier.

Even after all these years, I still love the creative process as much as the results. Slow Fashion … I love to employ time-honored techniques and methods, that showcase the Art of Sewing and end with a final garment of superior quality - No shortcuts or hacks in my world!

Over the years I have dressed brides, costumed reenactors and festival-goers, and everything in between. I always look forward to the next project, and the joy it brings to its owner.

One of the most exciting aspects of sewing for me has also been to teach others what I love. I have taught kids, teens and adults basic to advanced sewing and garment construction, through a variety of classes. When there isn’t a pandemic I can be found teaching garment sewing classes at Cate’s Sew Modern in Guilford, CT, and one-on-one in my studio.

When not sewing I can usually be found engaged in one of my other obsessions: all manner of fiber arts (knitting, crocheting, weaving), baking, jewelry-making, stained glass art, gardening, furniture refinishing and upcycling, and more. I am also an avid hiker and all-around outdoors enthusiast and nature-lover, and can be found wandering the mountains of northern New England as much as is humanly possible!
